"Inspiration Point" Bluff overlooking Lake Michigan and the little town of Arcadia, Michigan

Via Flickr: I was going to head down to Grand Haven during the gale warnings for (Draco) and shoot there, and the St. Joe lighthouse, but I decided to shoot something new. I ended up first in the little town of Arcadia. The roadside park was closed and 16 inches or more of fresh snow fell during the night so I had to park the truck a half mile or so up the road and walk back. The stairs that climb up to the lookout were drifted thigh deep in snow, making it quite a feat . It was well worth the climb though, the view was gorgeous, the waves are much bigger than they appear. If you look close you can see Trinity Lutheran Church, Arcadia's most prominent structure and a Michigan state historic site.

Lake Huron Sunrise, Port Hope, Michigan

I wish I would have had gotten some video the morning I took this photo. The ice was bobbing around, making cool gurgling sounds in the water. I stood there listening and watching this sunrise all morning.

Winter on the Mosquito river Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

I hiked back to the Mosquito river believing the weathermen that the lake-effect snow was over , and that the wind direction was changing to a southerly flow. NOT so much. shortly after I reached the Mosquito falls and got some pics, it started snowing HEAVY. the narrow trail through the forest doesn't look the same with the pines bending over and your tracks you made coming in are quickly being covered up. There is a couple of intersections where you turn on that trail to Mosquito, and apparently some of this years deer hunters thought it was a good plan to use the trail signs for target practice .

This shot was taken from the back porch of the cabin we stayed in last week. Not the best composition, but the best I could do by shooting through the opening in the woods that the property owners cut. You can see the lights from the town of Pigeon Forge in the valley.

Manabezho Falls Presque Isle river, Porcupine Mountains State Park

In the Spring, or other times of high water, this falls is very wide. But in Summer it flows mostly from one side. Just downstream there's a suspension (Footbridge) where the famous "potholes" can be seen. The river carved them into the gorge.

Presque Isle river (Potholes) Porcupine Mountains State Park

These interesting curved shapes carved into the rock on the Presque isle river are photographed by lots of photographers each year. I haven't been here when the light was optimal, or when the water levels were just right, having some water flow over each pothole. I've been there early spring when the water is so high it goes complete
ly over them, hiding the curves. This year we had drought conditions so some of the potholes had no water at all. Still though, very beautiful and picturesque . One of the most beautiful locations in Michigan.

Autumn at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

What's happening along these sandstone cliffs is amazing. It's like something is turning a crank and rolling the
forest floor over the edge.. What's interesting too, is how the trees start growing again along the shoreline, and on the sides of cliff walls. This photo was taken between Chapel beach and Mosquito beach.

The first time we visited this Lighthouse, (about 20 years ago) It was about ready to fall into Lake Superior from the severe erosion. The Lighthouse now has been saved and beautifully restored.
