Big Sable Point Lighthouse - Ludington, Michigan

It's a 2 mile hike out to Big Sable Lighthouse so I decided to take my bike with me in case there wasn't much snow. I ended up riding my bike out there, only a couple of spots where I had to get off and push, and that wasn't because of snow, it was because of the drifting sand. I spent a few hours back there and caught a pretty nice sunset before peddling back out.

Winter at Point Iroquois Lighthouse - Whitefish Bay, Michigan

When we were Upper Michigan last year they were renovating Point Iroquois Lighthouse so it wasn't ready for taking photos. We returned the other day to find it looking like brand new. What an amazing job everyone did thank you to all involved. This is my second upload from this shoot, the first one has more emphasis on the fence, this one has more blue in the sky and I think I like it more overall.

Point Iroquois Lighthouse - Whitefish Bay, Michigan

Via Flickr:
Named for the Iroquois warriors massacred there by the Ojibwe in 1662. Native Algonkians called the point "Nadouenigoning", composed of the words "Nadone" (Iroquois) and "Akron" (bone)

We climbed the tower and had a look at our Canadian neighbors shoreline. (photo below)
Looks like their going green after seeing all of the wind turbines lining their shores.

Lower Bond Falls - Paulding, Michigan

Pretty much had to crawl to get to this point of view at Bond falls. I'm still not sure what think about this shot, but it did accomplish my goal of getting a different POV from any of my other shots of this falls.

Holland Harbor Lighthouse - Known as (Big Red) Holland, Michigan

Via Flickr:
I'm going to make note on this photo the fact that this winter has been the warmest and with the least snowfall of any winter in my memory, or my mothers 80 year recollection, and she remembers everything! :). There wasn't a hint of snow or ice anywhere on the Lake Michigan shoreline.

"Miners Castle in Winter" Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

Via Flickr:
As a result of the incredibly mild winter in Michigan, we were able to drive our jeep back to miners castle for a sunset. Lake Superior is a huge snow making machine in normal winters along pictured rocks, burying it in a deep blanket of snow. I wanted to get this shot and compare it to the one I took from the same POV back in July. The sun was in front of me in July, this time it was behind me and to the left. Summer photo below.

"Winter at the Beach" Tawas Point State Park - East Tawas, Michigan (Lake Huron)

Via Flickr:
Did you know Michigan has over 3000 miles of Great Lakes Shoreline! Looks like were finally under the gun for some winter weather. Lots of winter storm warnings and advisories for this afternoon through Friday.

It was windy when I took this shot, and wanted to get a clear shot of the dune grass so I did something I rarely do and cranked the ISO to 800. I was pleasantly surprised with the results; a little noise reduction applied in the sky and she's good to go .

Winter at Bond Falls ~ Upper Bond Falls ~ Paulding, Michigan

Via Flickr:
If you want to see snow in Michigan this year, you go to the Upper Peninsula! There was maybe 11 0r 12 inches on the ground here at bond falls, but that is such a little amount for this area this time of year. Again the winter solitude is simply an amazing experience. My wife and I broke fresh tracks in the snow exploring both sides of the river.

"Winters Dawn" Point Aux Barques Lighthouse - Port Hope, Michigan

Via Flickr:
This was only the second time for me to visit this jewel of lake Huron and to see it in such beautiful light was a real treat. I was here several hours exploring the shoreline, the only tracks in the snow were from deer that had been milling around the lighthouse.

Winter at Miners Castle - Lake Superior, Pictured Rocks NationalLakeshore

Via Flickr:
In a normal winter you wouldn't be able to get back to Miners Castle without a snowmobile but we were able to get back to it with our jeep, this winter, with no problem. It was remarkable what little ice Lake Superior had around it's shores. In fact the ice was just starting to form as seen in this photo. I was going to crop this image but I couldn't make myself eliminate any of that sky, or any of that Emerald Green water Lake Superior is notorious for.
