"Rocky Shores" Beaver Basin Wilderness Pictured Rocks National lakeshore

Love this remote area of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. If your looking for quiet, solitude, this place is for you. This pine bending up from the edge of the shoreline caught my eye so we climbed down to get some pics..my wife got a couple of bruises getting back out but ... :)

"Snail Shell harbor" Fayette Historic Ghost Town, Garden peninsula, (6 photos)

Fayette, Michigan, the iron smelting ghost town of the 19th century. When I was editing the hotel pic I had it zoomed to 100% brushing off a sensor spot and I got goosebumps for a second from what looked like the face of a women in a window of the hotel. I was chatting with a local photographer the evening I took these pics and he was telling us about the ghost of a little girl he had seen two times, and how skeptical his friend was until he himself had witnessed it. Lots of interesting history to this place and lots of tragedy.

"Crepsucular rays" Miners beach Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

This part of PRNL is a great place to spend a day picnicking at the beach. Swimming at the mouth of the Miners river is amazing. We put the canoe in here and it's just a short paddle to Miners Castle for a spectacular view of the caves by the base of the turrets.

"Breaking Light" Point Betsie Lighthouse Crystalia, Michigan

This shot was taken just as the sun was rising over the dune behind Point Betsie. I was answering a few questions this morning about this photo and It dawned on me that over the years I have never seen another photographer at this lighthouse at this time of the morning. I have read that Point Betise is one of the most photographed Lighthouses in the country,... hmm!

"New Presque Isle Lighthouse" Presque Isle, Michigan

I was dabbling with Black and White today; It's a part of photography I know little about really. I loaded this lighthouse photo into the free picasa software, applied a B&W filter and tweaked the sliders a bit.

"Otter Creek" Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

One of my favorite things to do is to wade in the little creeks that flow into the great lakes. This one,. (Otter Creek) , is interesting because sometimes it flows North along Lake Michigan and other years it flows South. It all depends on the storms that come off the big lake and what they do the the beach. The water is warmer in the stream, so wading in it after having been in Lake Michigan makes it feel very warm!
