"Miners Castle Sunset" - Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore - Munising , Michigan, a photo by Michigan Nut on Flickr.
I'm always looking to find a different point of view when photographing places that have been photographed over and over again although my guess is quite a few people have captured Miners Castle from this perspective. One leg of my tripod was hanging off the cliff which rises 200 feet above Lake Superior. The spot I am standing on is undercut from erosion so it's kind of scary. Definitely have to be very cautious...
The best time to photograph Miners Castle is in the evening because of the sun warming the inside edges of it's beautiful cove. To get a sunset picture like this one, the best time is when the sun is the furthest north during the summer solstice . Other times of the year the sun would't be in your shot from this vantage point.
Miners Falls is close by and makes a great side trip when visiting the area. Miners Falls is perhaps one of the best falls in Pictured Rocks
National Lakeshore.
Here is a nice map of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore from Michigan interactive.

This is a gorgeous photo. I'm going to try to remember to ask for this to be given to me for my birthday in December.
ReplyDeleteThanks, glad you like like it. I plan to frame and matt or get a canvas wrap for my gallery of this photo. It's one of my favorites!
